Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Shield and Shield Plus?
Shield gives first responders access to a detailed 3D map of your school or facility, enhanced with tactical Vpins (virtual pins) that mark blind spots, exits, safe zones, and more. Shield Plus includes all the features of Shield, but adds integrated live camera feeds, allowing responders and dispatch to monitor activity in real-time from within the 3D interface.
Is NXST a replacement for our current security system?
No. NXST is built to enhance—not replace— your current security setup. We work with your existing protocols, floor plans, and camera systems to create a shared platform that improves coordination, visibility, and response time during emergencies.
Does NXST work without Wi-Fi or mobile data?
NXST is designed to function with an active Wi-Fi or mobile data connection to ensure real-time features—like live camera feeds and synced updates—remain fully operational. However, if service is temporarily lost during an incident, the system will continue running on a preloaded cache data of the 3D map and Vpin interface, allowing responders to navigate the space effectively. Live features like CCTV will resume once the connection is restored.
Will students physically see NXST products in the school?
No. NXST operates invisibly in the background, meaning students won’t see hardware like metal detectors, screens, or kiosks. They may see discreet NXST branding on doors or windows, but the core technology lives within a secure digital platform accessed by authorized personnel only.
How much does shield products cost?
Pricing is tailored to each client based on building size, the number of facilities, and whether live CCTV integration is included. We offer flexible structures, including subscription-based plans, one-time setup fees, and multi-year agreements. Many of our clients also use state and federal grant funding, and we provide full support during the grant application process.
How long does it take to deploy NXST in a school or facility?
Most deployments can be completed in 4–6 weeks, depending on facility size and availability for scanning. Our team handles scanning, system configuration, and training with minimal disruption to school operations.
What security measures are in place to protect our school data?
NXST uses 256-bit military-grade encryption, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and role-based access to ensure only authorized users can access system data. All platform access is controlled through your local dispatch center, and a full audit log tracks every user interaction

What’s included with a standard Shield product installation?
Each installation includes a 3D scan of your facility, tactical Vpin placement, system onboarding, and access control setup with your local 911 dispatch center. We also provide user training, emergency drill scheduling tools, and optional CCTV integration for Shield Plus clients
What is the P.E.P. (Partnership & Endorsement Program)?
The Partnership & Endorsement Program (P.E.P.) connects school administrators, safety professionals, and community leaders with NXST’s development team. Members receive early access to new features, direct input into product development, and access to specialized onboarding support and grant documentation. It’s our way of building with—not just for—our community.
Can we use grant funding to pay for NXST?
Yes. NXST qualifies under several state, federal, and private grant categories, especially those supporting school safety, law enforcement, and emergency preparedness. We offer guidance and templated materials to help your grant writers succeed.
